Introduction

In Canada, racism remains a pressing issue, with 3 in 5 Black Canadians viewing racism as a significant problem in the workplace. Despite increased dialogue around the topic, many Black Canadians believe that little progress has been made to address racial inequities. CivicAction recognized the need to confront this issue by launching a virtual campaign focused on systemic racism in the workplace—an environment where racism is often perpetuated through outdated HR policies, a lack of resources, and unsupportive organizational cultures.

Objective

CivicAction aimed to educate Canadian companies, governments, and individuals on the importance of addressing anti-Black racism within their organizations. The goal was to strengthen their commitment to fostering inclusion and equity in the workplace through a series of informational videos that raised awareness and inspired action.

What We Did

  • Content Creation:
    • Corex Creative worked closely with CivicAction to design and script a series of short, informational videos. Each video was crafted to convey the key messages with clarity and impact, aligning with CivicAction’s mission to address workplace inequities.
  • Production:
    • We managed the entire production process, from ideation to post-production. Our team ensured that the final series featured diverse voices and stories, highlighting the need for systemic change. The polished videos provided an authentic narrative that resonated with the target audience.
  • Digital Strategy:
    • The campaign was strategically distributed across CivicAction’s digital platforms to maximize visibility and engagement. In addition to the videos, we incorporated educational resources and calls to action that encouraged organizations and individuals to take concrete steps toward dismantling systemic racism in the workplace.
  • Audience Engagement:
    • To increase the campaign’s reach, we created quick, shareable clips for CivicAction’s website and social channels. These bite-sized, high-impact videos helped expand the campaign’s audience and ensured the message reached both organizations and the general public.

Impact

The virtual campaign successfully elevated CivicAction’s role as a leader in promoting equity and inclusion across various sectors. By fostering dialogue and providing educational content, the campaign spread critical awareness about anti-Black racism in Canadian workplaces. More importantly, it encouraged organizations to take actionable steps toward fostering a more inclusive, supportive work environment.
