Historica Canada – The Blackburns

Corex Creative was approached by Historica Canada, a well-known online educational platform, to create an animation that tells the story of the Blackburns. The Blackburns, whose story was lost and only re-discovered in 1985, were born enslaved in the United States. Almost extradited after escaping to Canada, the Blackburns settled in Toronto where they started the first taxi business in Upper Canada, generating enough wealth to help aid other freedom seekers. The Blackburns’ case helped set a legal precedent that popularized Upper Canada as a destination on the Underground Railroad. Their legacy of activism, generosity, resilience, and innovation helped shape the city of Toronto.

We partnered with LCBO to produce their first campaign, the “Spirit of Sustainability” - a fully-integrated campaign across customer-facing, social and internal channels, to bring their audience along the journey that LCBO is taking to make actionable change for Ontarians.

Tasked with leading the creative vision, design and video production for the virtual campaign, the goal was to generate awareness and motivate Black creatives to join the BSO community.

CivicAction: Anti-Black Racism in the Workplace

CivicAction turned to Corex Creative to produce a digital series of short informational videos. The campaign would inform and call on Canadian companies, governments, and individuals to deepen their commitment and accountability to addressing anti-Black racism.
